Recognizing Our True Identity in Christ

 Our Divine Nature

As children of God, it's crucial that we constantly remind ourselves of our true identity in Christ. If we don't understand who we are in God's eyes - how He sees and thinks about us - we'll live defeated lives. Our identity isn't based on what the world or the devil says, but on what God has declared about us in His Word.

When Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened and God spoke, saying "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." God was pleased with Jesus simply because He was obedient to the Father's will, even before performing any miracles. This shows us that our identity and God's approval of us is based on our relationship with Him, not our accomplishments.

The enemy will always try to make us doubt or prove our identity, just as he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. But we must stand firm on what God has said about us. We are called to declare God's decrees over our lives, speaking His truth about who we are.

Salt and Light

Jesus said we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. As salt, we're meant to preserve goodness and add flavor to life. We must be careful not to lose our "saltiness" - our distinctive Christ-like character. As light, we're called to shine God's truth and love in a dark world.

Sons and Friends of God

Through faith in Christ, we've been given the authority to become children of God. More than that, as we're led by His Spirit, we truly operate as sons and daughters. We can cry out "Abba, Father" with the intimacy of beloved children.

Jesus even calls us His friends. He's elevated us from servants to intimate companions, sharing the Father's heart with us. This gives us access to divine insight and revelation.

New Creation and Righteousness

In Christ, we are a new creation. Our old sinful nature has passed away, and we've been given a new nature in the image of Jesus. We're no longer defined by our past or our mistakes. Instead, we've been made the very righteousness of God in Christ.

This means we should no longer identify ourselves as "sinners," but as holy and righteous children of God. While we may still struggle with sin at times, it's no longer our core identity.

Overcomers and Ambassadors

As believers, we're called overcomers. Through faith in Christ, we have victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. We're also ambassadors for Christ's kingdom, representing Him to a lost world. Just as earthly ambassadors rely on their home country's resources, we can depend on heaven's unlimited supply.

The Temple of God

Scripture declares that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. God Himself dwells within us! This profound truth should shape how we view ourselves and care for our bodies. It also gives us confidence that God is actively working to protect and heal us as His dwelling place.

Partakers of the Divine Nature

Perhaps most incredibly, we've been made partakers of God's own divine nature. We're called to put on Christ-like character - mercy, kindness, humility, and forgiveness. As we behold Jesus, we're transformed more and more into His likeness.

Living Out Our True Identity

Knowing who we are in Christ isn't just about feeling good about ourselves. It's meant to empower us to live victoriously and fulfill God's purposes. We must continually renew our minds with these truths, resisting the devil's lies and the world's faulty perceptions.

Our identity is secure in God's love and Christ's finished work. We're forgiven, accepted, empowered, and destined for greatness in His kingdom. As we embrace and live from this identity, we'll experience the abundant life Jesus came to give us.

Let's daily remind ourselves of who God says we are. Let's walk in confident faith, extending God's love to a hurting world. For we are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do the good works He prepared in advance for us to do.
