Part of our "Christian Bible Verse Candle" series is from the book of Isaiah. I want to present the latest addition to the series, Isaiah 9:6. Isaiah begins with, "For unto us a Child Is born." It continues and talks about "The government will be on his shoulders," which speaks of the authority of His Lordship and bearing the burdens of humanity. Two titles this child will Wear—Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace could apply to an earthly human. And in a time when Judah desperately needed knowledge and peace, these would have been traits they greatly wanted in a leader.
But the other two—"Mighty God and Everlasting Father"—are names that would seem to clearly apply to the Lord. But the Israelites were not presuming God would be born and live among them. They had no idea of the incarnation, and names and titles always carried symbolic weight to remind the Israelites who their God was. So, they would have seen this prophetic scripture differently.
